Tropic Bird

Tropic Bird, any bird of the genus Phaethon, type of a family (Phaethontidae), with three species, from the tropical parts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In general appearance they are tern-like, but the central tail-feathers are extremely long. The general plumage is white, but in one species (P. phoenicurus) the tail-feathers are bright-red. These birds have great power of flight, and live almost entirely on the wing.
