Siluroids

Siluroids, a large family (Siluridae) of Physostomous Fishes, chiefly from the rivers and lakes of all temperate and tropical regions, though a few are coast fishes. The skin is without scales; barbules are always present, and there may be an adipose fin. The Sheat-fish (Silurus glanis), the European Siluroid, found in rivers east of the Rhine, attains a weight of from 300 lbs. to 400 lbs., and its flesh is well-favoured [CAT-FISH, MALAPTERURUS.]
