Scarron

Scarron, PAUL, was horn about 1610, and became an abbe. Visiting Italy, where he appears to have led a wild life, he returned to Paris in 1635. Soon after this, from fever or some other disease, he contracted a rheumatic affection which distorted his whole body and paralysed his lower limbs. He married in 1652 Francoise d'Aubigne, afterwards Mme. de Maintenon, and his house became the centre of literary society. Scarron died in 1660. His only work of merit is Le Roman Comique.
