Saintsbury

Saintsbury, GEORGE EDWARD (b. 1845), critic, was born at Southampton and educated at King's College, London, and Oxford, where he graduated in 1868. For some years he held appointments as a master at various schools. He is known as the author of a Life of Dryden (1881), a Life of Ma1lborough (1885), and many other literary works, and is a great authority in England on French literature. In 1896 he was appointed Professor of English Literature at Edinburgh University.
