Sabadilla Seeds

Sabadilla Seeds are the winged seeds of Asagraea officinalis, the only species of a Mexican genus of Colchicaceae. It is a bulbous plant, with long narrow leaves, and an ebracteate raceme of flowers, and a fruit of three many-seeded follicles. The seeds were formerly used to destroy vermin, but are now only used as a source of the poisonous alkaloid veratria. About 175 tons are shipped annually from Caracas mostly to Hamburg.
