Prudentius

Prudentius, Aueelius Clemens, the Christian Latin poet, was born in 348 at some town in Spain. He adopted the profession of a lawyer and became a judge, and he afterwards held a high court appointment at Rome, where he became tired of worldly affairs, and, turning to religion, expressed his thought in several hymns, philosophical anti-pagan poems (Contra Symmachum), fourteen poems in honour of saints, and the Diptychon, a hexameter poem on Scriptural history. In his Prefatio he gives details of his life up to 405, and a catalogue of his works.
