Polyandrons

Polyandrons, literally "having many male organs" or stamens, applied strictly to those flowers in which there are twenty or more stamens, and their insertion is on the receptacle (tlialamifloral) as in the Ranunculaoeae (q.v.), poppies, water-lilies, mignonettes, rock-rose, linden, etc. Where there are a similar number with "calycifloral" insertions [Rosacea], they were termed in the Linnasan arrangement icosandrous Polyandry. [Polygamy.]
