Orchomenos

Orchomenos, the name of two cities of ancient Greece, one being in Bceotia and the other in Arcadia. The former stood on the northern shore of Lake Copais, and was famous for a musical festival held in honour of the Graces. Its government, an aristocracy, was obnoxious to the , Thebans, by whom at the close of the Peloponnesian War the city was destroyed, and1 the- inhabitants sold as slaves. In 1880- Schliemann discovered here a. royal mausoleum of great1 size ' and splendour.
