Oliphant Mrs Margaret

Oliphant, Mrs. Margaret, was born in 1828. Her first attempt at fiction, Passages in the Life of Mrs. Margaret Maitland of Sunnyside, was published in 1849, and at once attracted favourable notice. It was followed by a long series of novels. It will suffice to mention the Clironieles of Carlingford, Salem Chapel, The Minister's Wife, and Within the Precincts. Mrs. Oliphant was also an industrious compiler of memoirs, such as The Makers of Florence, The Life of Edward Truing, and biographical sketches of Montalembert, St, Francis of Assisi, and Cervantes She died in 1897.
