Masaccio

Masaccio, Tommaso Guidi (1402-1429), an Italian painter, showed an early inclination for art, and in 1424 entered the Guild of Painters at Florence, afterwards studying at Pisa and Rome.

At Rome he executed some frescoes, A Crucifixion and Scenes from the Lives of St. Catherine and St. Clement. But his name is chiefly associated with the Brancacci chapel at Florence, yvhere, though some doubt exists as to what is his and what was done by Filippino Lippi and others, much of his undoubted work exists. Among this The Temptation of Adam and Eve, The Expulsion from Eden, and St. Peter Baptising are especially notable.
