Malpighi

Malpighi, Maecello (1628-74), was born at Bologna, and may be looked on as the founder of microscopic anatomy, much of his discovery being also due to his practice of vivisection. His chief discoveries were in the direction of capillary circulation, the nature of the secreting glands, brain matter, the development of the egg, and the like, and his name has been given to some of his discoveries. He also wrote an Anatomy of Plants.
