Lear

Lear, Edward (1812-88), English painter and author, was born in "London. From 1832-36 he was at Knowsley in "the family of the Earl of Derby, and drew plates for the Knowsley Menayerie: It was for trie Earl's grandchildren that he composed 1 his Book of Nonsense, which Was followed by many other, nonsense books at intervals, which attained almost as much.popularity as the original book. In 1837 he left England on account of his health, and stayed for a time in Rome, and sketched about Southern Europe, the result being his Landscape-Painter in Greece and Albania.
