Kursk

Kursk, a Russian government in the middle of South Russia, contains about 18,000 square miles, and is watered by tributaries of the Dnieper and Don. About three-fourths of the surface is arable, and the district produces chalk, iron-stone, millstones, and potter's clay. There are many barrows. The capital, Kursk, is 312 miles S.W. of Moscow, and is celebrated for the Easter fair, Korennaya, held near it, where transactions to over the amount of £1,000,000 till recently took place. The chief industries are tanning, and soap, candle, tobacco, and spirits manufactures.
