Klapka

Klapka, George, one of the chief leaders in the Hungarian revolution, was born in 1820. He served in the Austrian army till 1848, when he joined his countrymen and rendered distinguished services to Hungary, for whom he held the fortress of Kcmorn to the last. He availed himself of an amnesty to return to Hungary in 1867. He is the author of The National War in Hungary and Transylvania (1851), and some Memoirs (1st ser. 1850; 2nd ser. 1886).
