IambicsIambics, verses in which the normal form of each foot is an iambus, i.e. a short syllable followed by a long one. They are said to have been invented by the Greek poet Archilochus (q.v.). Substituting stress for quantity, English blank verse consists of iambic lines, each containing five feet.
