Hebron

Hebron, of which the modern name is El Khalil, is 21 miles S.S.W. of Jerusalem, in the valley of Eskcol. It was at first known as Kirjatharba. Here David reigned for seven years as King of Judah. The mosque '-'El Haram" is built on the supposed site of the cave where Abraham and his descendants were buried, and replaces the church built by the Empress Helena.
