Hair

Hair. A hair consists of an aggregation of much modified epithelial cells, and may be regarded as an outgrowth from the epidermis or outer protecting layer of the skin. Almost all parts of the skin are studded with cylindrical follicles or depressions, in each of which the root of a hair is planted. Such follicles are entirely absent from the palm of the hand and the sole of the foot, and as regards the rest of the body they vary much in number and degree of development.
