Guarini

Guarini, Giovanni Battista (1537-1612), a Ferrarese poet, was employed diplomatically by Alfonso II., of Ferrara, by Ferdinand de Medici, grand duke of Tuscany, and by the Duke of Urbino.

His best work, II Pastor Fido, written in imitation of Tasso's Aminta, enjoyed an immense popularity, and has been frequently translated. The author died at Venice.
