Gmelin

Gmelin, Leopold (1788-1853), a German chemist, was born at Gottingen. He came of a scientific stock, as his great-uncle, Johann Georg (1709-55), was a great traveller and one of the chief botanists of his day, and his father, Johann Friedrich (1748-1804), was Professor of Medicine at Tubingen and Gottingen, and left a History of Chemistry and other works. Leopold held the chair of Chemistry and Medicine at Heidelberg for many years, and was author of a Handbnch der the elimination of water. Thus -
