Fustian

Fustian, a twilled cotton fabric, closely resembling velvet. It has a short nap, produced by cutting the loops formed on the surface by the welt threads, and afterwards brushing and singeing them. Velveteen and corduroy are varieties of fustian. It is said to take its name from El-Fustat, a suburb of Cairo.
