Friday

Friday, the name of the sixth day of the week, is derived from the Anglo-Saxon Frigga-daeg - that is, the day sacred to Frigga, wife of Odin. The German is Freitag, and the Swedish Fredag. As the day on which Christ was crucified, it is observed by Eomanists and strict Anglicans as a fast-day. This day is still looked upon by sailors of all nations as an unlucky one on which to commence a voyage.
