Fauns

Fauns (Latinfavere, to favour, i.e. well-wishers) were Roman nature-deities attendant on the god Taunus, eventually identified with the Greek Pan. 'They are represented as half-men, half-goats, with small horns. They were frolicsome, mischievous sprites, who sometimes sent nightmare. Faunus himself was the god of fertility, and revealed the future in dreams. He had a wife Fania, and was identified by chroniclers with an early and mythical king of Latium.
