Etiolation

Etiolation (from the French etioler, to blanch), the bleaching of leaves by the imperfect development of chlorophyll, either from the exclusion of light, the absence of iron or other mal-nutrition. It is often accompanied by the non-development of poisonous principles, as in the artificial blanching of celery.
