Edgar

Edgar (944-975), a king of the English, commonly known as Edgar the Peaceable, as his reign was a period of prosperous development and greatly favourable to the fusion of conflicting national elements. He strengthened and consolidated the internal administration of the kingdom, and formed fleets for def eneling the coasts against Norse rovers. St. Dunstan had a great share in the government of the land. Edgar's determined adminstration of the laws has caused him to be charged with cruelty, and his youth seems to have been particularly open to the charge of vice.
