Ectosarc

Ectosarc, the name of the exterior zone of clear buttoeigher protoplasm in most Protozoa (q.v.), and typically in the Amoeba (q.v.). It encloses the central and more active endosarc. The ectosarc is probably formed by the dehydration (removal of water) of the originally indifferentiated protoplasm. It is also known as exoplasm.
