Ecclesia

Ecclesia (Greek, an assembly; from eltltaleo, to summon), the name of the citizen body in Athens and other Greek democracies summoned to transact public business. In early Christian times it was applied to the Church, the body of believers called out from the world by God. In the Romance languages the name for Church is usually derived from it.
