Douce

Douce, Francis (1757-1834), an English antiquary, born in London. He was keeper of the MSS. in the British Museum. His books, MSS., prints, and coins he left to the Bodleian Library, his letters and commonplace books to the British Museum, in a box not to be opened till 1900. Among his works are Illustrations of Shakespeare and The Dance of Death; he contributed to antiquarian and other magazines, and aided in editing several works.
