Digby Hon Robert

Digby, Hon. Robert, British admiral, was born about the year 1733. In 1759 he participated in Hawke's glorious victory over M. de Conflans. In 1778 he shared in Keppel's action with d'Orvilliers, and in the following year was promoted to be rear-admiral. In 1779 he was appointed second in command of the fleet which, under Rodney, defeated De Langara off St. Vincent, and relieved Gibraltar. He subsequently held chief command fh North America. He died in 1814.
