Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace, The, is mainly the same structure as that of the Exhibition of 1851, the materials of which were sold to a company for £70,000 at the close of the year, and re-erected at Sydenham in Kent under the auspices of Sir Joseph Paxton, Owen Jones, and other architects. The Palace was opened by the Queen in 1854. It has since been constantly utilised for festivals and all kinds of exhibitions. In 1866 a fire in the north wing caused damage to the amount of £150,000.
