Courtrai

Courtrai, a fortified town of Belgium in West Flanders, on the Lys, 26 miles south-west of Ghent. It possesses numerous fine public buildings, including a famous belfry. Its manufactures consist of linen and cotton fabrics, damasks, lace, yarn, woollen goods, tobacco paper, leather, etc. It is famous as the scene of the battle of the Spurs in 1302.
