Colne

Colne, a market town of E. Lancashire, on a feeder of the Calder, and about 26 miles N. of Manchester. In the fourteenth century it was noted for its woollen manufactures; now its chief productions are calicoes and mousselines-de-laine; Archbishop Tillotson was educated here. Limestone and slate are worked in the neighbourhood.
