Child Sir Josiah

Child, Sir Josiah, was born in 1630 in London. As a navy victualler he accumulated a fortune of £200,000, and in 1678 received a baronetcy. He is now best remembered by his writings, which were on economical subjects. The chief was Brief Observations Concerning Trade and the Interest of Money. He wrote against usury, and advocated the compulsory exportation of paupers to the colonies. He died in 1699.
