Cereopsis

Cereopsis, a genus of geese, with a single species ( C. novae hollandiae), from Australia and the adjacent islands, owing generic distinction chiefly to the broad cere which nearly covers the bill. The flight is laboured, and the flesh is excellent in flavour - two important factors in the increasing rarity of these birds. Their nearest ally, the extinct New Zealand goose (Cnemiornis) was probably incapable of flight.
