Cameroon

Cameroon or Cameroons. 1. A river of W. Africa, in Upper Guinea, enters the Bight of Biafra by an estuary 20 miles in width, after a course of undetermined length in a south-easterly direction. On its banks are prosperous villages, whose inhabitants do a thriving trade in ivory and palm oil. 2. A mountain range at the angle of the Bight of Biafra and opposite the island of Fernando Po. Its highest peak reaches an elevation of 13,000 ft. 3. The name is also applied to the district adjacent to the Bight of Biafra, and since 1884 belonging to Germany.
