Byblos

Byblos, an ancient maritime city of Phoenicia, is situated a little to the north of Beyrout, at the foot of the lower range of the Libanus. It is now named Jubeil, and was famous as the seat of the worship of Adonis or Tammuz. It was called by the Jews Gebal.
