Burgkman

Burgkman, Hans, engraver and painter, was born in 1473 at Augsburg. He is supposed to have been a pupil of Albert Durer, and was the father-in-law of the elder Holbein. It is as a wood engraver rather than a painter that he is best known, and his chief work is the series of 135 cuts representing the triumphs of the Emperor Maximilian. He died in 1531 in his native town.
