Bulgarin

Bulgarin, Thaddaus, writer, was born in 1789, in Minsk. After serving in the Russian army, he in 1810 joined the Poles under Napoleon, taking part in campaigns in Spain, Germany, and Russia.

In 1819 he settled in St. Petersburg, edited the Northern Archives, The Northern Bee, and The Russian Thalia, and in 1829 published Ivan Vinzhayen, his first novel, which heightened his popularity. Besides novels he also wrote histories, travels, and reminiscences. He died in 1859.
