Brooch

Brooch, an ornamental clasp worn on the dress, to which it is fastened by means of a pin. Its use is now confined to women, but among the ancient Celtic and Scandinavian races brooches were frequently worn by men. The use of brooches dates back as far as the early iron age; very beautiful specimens have been preserved, especially of early Celtic brooches, the Tara brooch, the Ugadale brooch, and the Hunterston brooch being among the most celebrated.
