Bowls

Bowls, an English game of some antiquity, still largely practised. A smooth level piece of turf about 40 yards square, surrounded by a shallow trench, is needed. Each player has two bowls, which he rolls so that they may lie as near as possible to a small white ball (the "jack"), which is first of all rolled to a distance of not less than 20 yards from the players. Each bowl is biassed, so that some skill is required to excel in the game.
