Balaklava

Balaklava, a small port 6 miles S.E. of Sehastopol, in the Crimea, Russia. It possesses a large landlocked basin with a very narrow entrance, which served during the Crimean war as the place for disembarking troops and stores for the British Army. The battle of Balaklava (1854), made memorable by the "Charge of the Six Hundred," and by Sir Colin Campbell's splendid handling of the Highland infantry, was fought to the north of the town.
