Babar

Babar, (1) a large Afghan tribe, akin to the Shirani, in the Koh-i-Daman, Dera Ishmail district, opposite the Sangao and Dahina passes; two main divisions: Mahsud with seven Khels, Ghwara with five Khels; 4,000 families. (2) A branch of the Khatak Afghans, left bank of the Indus near the Sohan river. The term Babar, Babor, which is the Babhrava of Sanskrit records, is widespread throughout north-west India, as amongst the Jats of Sindh and the Babrias (Babars) of Gujerat.
