Amesbury

Amesbury, or Ambresbuby, a small town in the county of Wilts, on the River Avon, 9 miles from Salisbury. The town is connected with the Arthurian legends, and the remains of a remarkable Roman camp and of the Abbey exist close by. There is, too, a fine mansion built by Inigo Jones for the Queensberry family, and an interesting church. Ambresbury Banks is also the name of the remains of an old British camp near Epping Forest.
