Amasia

Amasia or Amasiayah, a town of Asiatic Turkey, built on a hill overlooking the river Yeshil-Irmak. It was formerly the capital of the Kings of Pontus. It is a somewhat dirty old town, but contains a fine mosque erected by Bajazet II. (1490), a college founded also by him, a citadel standing - on a commanding height, and many remains of antiquity. Silk, wine, wheat, and salt are its chief products.
