Aliwal

Aliwal, a village on the left bank of the Sutlej, 20 miles from Loodiana, in the Punjab, Upper India. Here, in 1846, Sir Harry Smith attacked the Sikhs under their sovereign Runjeet Singh, and, though their force of men and guns was twice as great, defeated them utterly.
